Welcome
Welcome to my site... a place to share a few bits and pieces relating to work as a learning facilitator and instructional designer, a work in progress that will continue to unfold as I gain new perspectives and assimilate them into my current ways of understanding… or better still, transform and transcend my current ways all together! Growth and change.... it's what life is all about! Continually evolving into a new and better you.
I'm interested in the nuances of digital body language in eLearning environments, growing digital citizenship, emotional intelligence and its application to learning, and on a lighter note... enjoy a daily dose of a few pearls of wisdom from George Takei (yep, a Trekki). I love gadgets, anything with an 'Apple' badge on it, playing around with software and experimenting with course development. In 2008 I commenced a degree [BAVE] in an endeavour to extend myself a bit and satisfy my thirst for learning! As a bonus I got to meet some great people. In 2011 I returned to Uni again, this time around doing a Post Graduate Degree in Business, I truly enjoyed the strong regional focus. It was great to be networking with such amazingly talented and wonderful people. What a pleasure it is to be immersed in learning for the sheer joy of it. In 2012 I commenced a Diploma in Community Service Work to improve the way in which I support learners and manage client relationships. |
I've been teaching in the Vocational Education and Training sector for around 13 years now, teaching both Information Technology and Business with the Tasmanian Polytechnic, facilitating learning locally on campus and state-wide online. I'm big on teamwork and communication.... essential for good online learning experiences. In 2011 I joined a State reference group developing an eLearning Strategy for the Polytechnic, I was also part of the NBN reference group exploring educational funding ideas. I'm currently enjoying working in Moodle 2.1, loving the transition from 1.9, so many cool features... though mind you, some of it's been a bit of a learning curve.
Prior to (and alongside) teaching I ran a home based Web Design business called Vortechs Solutions (ABN: 72 963 200 827), operating from 1999-2003. I also worked as a Network Support Officer in a local Primary School with around 200 students, fixing their computers and maintaining their network. As a web designer, I mainly worked in a freelance capacity, designing web pages for other service providers around Australia. Some of the web pages I created more than a decade ago are still around today:
